Together We Can Make A Difference

North Bay, Ontario — Parents and guardians concerned about bullying or other incidents on school buses can use TheRideHome.ca to keep a structured record of their child’s experiences and contribute to a community project examining student transportation safety.

Created by North Bay parent and software developer Cory McCoy, The Ride Home grew out of his family’s experience following a serious incident involving their daughter. Reconstructing earlier concerns showed how important it is to have a clear record of what happened, when it happened and who was notified.

The Government of Ontario’s guidance on bullying encourages parents to make notes about what happened and when, and to speak with their child’s school. The Ride Home is designed to help parents put that advice into practice by documenting each reported incident while the details are fresh and keeping those records together over time.

Parents can record incidents involving bullying, harassment, violence and other concerns during school transportation, including dates, times, who was notified and any follow-up. These entries can be compiled into a personal incident history to support discussions with school staff and other appropriate authorities.

The project also collects de-identified information from participating families to help identify recurring concerns, reporting patterns and whether families believe interventions have helped. It begins in North Bay.
Reports are submitted under pseudonyms and are not independently verified findings of fact. The project does not investigate individual children, schools, drivers or educators. Keeping a record on The Ride Home does not replace reporting an incident to the school or contacting police when appropriate.

Parents and guardians can learn more and participate at TheRideHome.ca.
